Community and Vocation

The Committee's aims are to identify, promote and monitor suitable projects and initiatives which are worthy of support. It considers the needs of local charities and provides assistance, not necessarily financial, to needy persons or groups. One example is the recent work with "Care for the Family" in relation to drug awareness issues and help for parents whose children may be at risk.

Our ever-popular Fiddlers Rally in June helps to raise funds for local charities. Keep the date in your diary free for this event.

It also encourages and fosters high ethical standards in business and professional life. To this end it organises functions related to above, e.g. mock interviews in cooperation with the local Academy, club visits to industrial and other premises, careers guidance, etc.

As part of the Vocational remit, the committee will once again be overseeing Challenge Enterprise. This is an exciting Rotary initiative which provides the opportunity to selected pupils in S5 and S6 to participate in entrepreneurial exercises. Previous participants have enthused about the weekend of intensive learning which takes teams of youngsters through the skills of setting up mock businesses.
